Mauritius Is facing severe torrential rain as few days remaining for the second lockdown comes to an end. Most of the Region around of the island are being flooded with sudden surge of water, road are being blocked. The weather has been deteriorated badly since a blanket of active clouds approach the island on Saturday.

This video was shared on youtube.

                                What is happening extactly?

Since on Saterday, the southern region of the island was firstly affected by the torrential rain. The Mauritius Meteo Sevice has alerted the people and put the country on state of emergency, where everything are completely closed on wednesday. This has also caused big traffic jam at the start of the week. Some most busiest and more frequently used roundabouts and motorways  by the population are drown with severe floods. Formers are amongst the most affected with the Torrential rain. Vegetation and crops are being washed away when rivers and flosses were overflowed and collapsed spontanously.

How often does it rains there?

Normally, as it a tropical island, Heavy rains here happen once or two in a year. In this current time, Mauritius usually faces only intermittent drizzle as it enters in winter season. But only at the End or Start of the year which heavy shower is expected. But this week  and the type of torrential rain is very unprecedented. The last torrential which unfolded there in Mauritius was aroud 8 years ago, and killed 2 people. Even though, it was only the capital of the island was inpacted contrary to current torrential rain which are pouring simultanously to almost all the district of the island.

What steps are being taken to help people?

As Mauritius is in a difficulty situation same as other countries are facing at the moment. There are no much things can be done by the government of Mauritius specially in a small amount of time. But despite economical problems and shortage of equipment and also lack of expertise, The Government, the autorities and volunteers are working --as a team-- around the clock to atleast prevent the situation deteriorated by pumping out accumulation of water into larger river or floss in order to deblock flosses and drains that were blocked by a mixer of brenches and wastes and muddy stufs.

According to the Meteo of Mauritius, the weather will gradually become normal on start of thursday.
